Interprovinicals and Home nations team fish off 2018

As the IFSA Interprovincials approached in February, everyone was a little nervous of the weather forecast of a spell of freezing weather over the duration of the competition.

The weather for the first competition was not too bad . The ladies and juniors fished Waterfoot, the weather held out but the weed in some places was awful, and some of the anglers spent their time, hauling weed in throughout the competition. The fish were there, but not in high numbers. The men’s teams fished Benone, and while they didn’t have the weed they had the bitter cold, with no shelter on the beach and again there were only a few fish around.
The second competition at the night time was a different story, with wind, low temperatures and incessant rain all the anglers were rightly fed up by the end of the comp. There seemed   to be a few more fish on waterfoot where the ladies and Juniors were, but Ballycastle was a much tougher venue for the men.
Sunday morning brought fresh snow, and while the roads seemed to be travelable, the road over to Waterfoot was reported to be quite dangerous. The third and last competition was called off for safety reasons, much to everyone’s disappointment.
The presentation took place on Sunday afternoon and everyone was grateful of the Marine Hotel in Ballycastle that was warm and comfortable for our stay.
