| 30.05.2010 | IRISH TEAM WINS GOLD IN THE HOME NATIONS BOAT COMPETITION MAY 2010 The Irish Boat team won this year's Home Nations Boat event fished from Belmullet in Broadhaven Bay from May 20th - 22nd. Mary Gavin Hughes, the Irish captain, was unable to fish due to an unfortunate accident. Shave Gilvary, deputy captain, stepped in and led the Irish team to victory. The other membres of the successful team were Liam O Callaghan, Josie Barrett, Liam Longmore and Henry Ross. Despite the accident, Mary was present throughout the event and lent her support and valuable experience to the team. The team was managed by Connaught Chairman Pat Walsh. Pat said "This team did Team Ireland and myself proud. Congratulations one and all. I am proud and privileged to have been manager of such an excellent team. In all my years serving as team manager, this was the best team work and co-operation I have seen, which as Mary Gavin Hughes said proves there is no I in the word team! I remember the words of Graheme Foote on the pier on the Saturday morning "Do it for Ireland" and the team did just that. My thanks to one and all from a very proud and happy Manager of Team Ireland. My thanks to Eamon O Duibhir for acting as Chairman for the occasion and welcoming all at the opening and closing dinners. Also to Pat Ruddy Chairman Belmullet SAC Hon. Sec. Kevin Walsh, Tony Lally, and Buddy Valkenburg Vice President CPC. The club did the Federation proud. The Broadway Bay Hotel was of the highest standard and cannot be faulted in any way, the Manager Dave Tyrell and the staff could not do enough for the teams partaking and I know they were all very impressed by the high standard of service and cuisine. The stewards for the two days who did a superb job were Grahame Blair chief steward, Kit Dunne, Martin Kennedy, Sylvie Sweeney, Pat Ruddy, and Tom Lillis who stepped into the breach on short notice. 69 Senior and 7 Juniors braved Arctic conditions to fish the comp on Sunday 10th Jan at Benone Beach. With an icy Easterly Wind blowing fishing was not great. A total of 53 fish were caught by 29 anglers - 24 Clubs were represented. Overall winner was Jonny Snoddy GADSAC ( Gold Medal ) Zone A 1st. Philip Brown Lough Foyle SAC 2nd. | 30.09.2009 | Heiko Dreier wins the IFSA Master Angler Boat Competition 2009 for the fifth time in seven years. Heiko won the Master Boat competition in Kilmore Quay last weekend. Fishing was done under World championship conditions i.e. all boats at anchor and all bait provided. Main species caught were wrasse, pollock and pouting and they showed in big numbers. A trigger fish was landed on the Saturday event. Heiko had a maximum score over the two days, winning all four sessions. Pio Enright also scored a maximum and was beaten only on a count back of fish. Five of last years Irish world team ended up in the top six of this year showing the consistency required at the top match anglers level. The top ten anglers from the masters will go forward into the fish-offs for the Irish boat team for 2010. | Full results. | |

| 25.09.2009 | IFSA members, Eamonn Fogarty and Paul Whelan of Raheny SAC won the Daiwa Pairs event in Kerry last week against a field full of top anglers, also finishing second and third in the individual event. Eamonn is the coach for the IFSA junior teams and coached Paul as a member of several teams, obviously teaching him well. Fishing was mainly for dogs and flounder with the usual Kerry mix of painted ray, bass and pollock. The best wrasse taken over the specimen days was estimated to be close to 8lb. This is the 28th year of the Daiwa pairs,and Eamonn and Paul are the third Irish pair to win the coveted award, following in the footsteps of Eoghan Duff and Patrick Forrester and Mick Dixon and Tony Byrne. | Irish Pairs site | |

| 22.06.2008 | Bray Outcasts Leinster league boat competition has been re-scheduled to 3 Aug 2008. The original event was cancelled due to bad weather. The Inter Provincial youths for 2009 will be run in the Wexford area on the 17th and 18th January. Get planning now !. Any under 16 anglers who wish to compete in the Leinster Youths league should contact their council youth officer before august 2008. The Jimmy Smith competition for 2009 has been rescheduled to 17th October 2009 due to a clash. Venue will be Benone area. This years competition will be held in Connaught on October 4th. Probable venue is Gurteen Bay. Good luck to the home international boat and shore teams who travel to UK in July. The shore event will be held in Samphire Hoe Devon with the boat in Milford Haven Wales. |
